Prasad Kumarasinghe, MBBS,MD,FCCP,FAMS

Dr Kumarasinghe is the Founder Chairman of the Wound Care Foundation of Sri Lanka which was founded in January 2004 in Colombo. He graduated MBBS(Sri Lanka) with second class honors in 1983 and obtained MD(Colombo) in 1989. He was later awarded the Fellowship of the Ceylon College of Physicians and the Fellowship of the Academy of Medicine Singapore. He is currently a Senior Consultant Dermatologist at the Colombo North Teaching Hospital and the incumbent President of the Sri Lanka Association of Dermatologists. He has been trained in Dermatology in Sri Lanka and Australia. Dr. Kumarasinghe has worked as a Senior Consultant at the National Skin Centre in Singapore as well.

In addition to his interest in wound care, his research interests include tropical diseases such as wound myiasis, leprosy, chromoblastomycosis and disorders of pigmentation. Dr. Kumarasinghe served as the Editor of the Sri Lanka Journal of Dermatology for three years and as an Assistant Editor of the Ceylon Medical Journal for several years. He is also a member of the Board of Study in Dermatology in Sri Lanka. He has authored many scientific papers and written several chapters in books.

Dr Kumarasinghe took an interest in wound healing after observing the ulcer clinics at Fremantle Hospital in Western Australia in 1991. This interest was rekindled after discussions with Prof Terrence Ryan(Oxford, UK) in the recent years. This association and the realization that a collaborative effort is needed to uplift the standard of wound care in Sri Lanka led to the inauguration of the Wound Care Foundation of Sri Lanka, with the participation of medical personnel of all relevant disciplines and with Prof Ryan as the International Adviser. Already many steps have been taken by this Foundation to educate and train doctors and nurses on better wound care practices.
